Barra Lodge has deservedly earnt the reputation as one of the premier barramundi and sportfishing lodges in the country.
The quality of the fishing, accommodation, food and service combines to deliver a fantastic experience.
The Fishing
Arnhem Land Barra Lodge is available for pure fishing clients from late February to early May during the run-off and late September to early December each year during the build-up.
These are the prime barramundi fishing times annually.
The lodge is owned by Outback Spirit who use this and several other lodges they own to conduct spectacular Eco and Cultural Tours between May and September.
You’ll fish pristine tidal rivers, coastal beaches, headlands, creeks, rock bars, offshore islands and various reefs.
The barra fishing is focussed on the Liverpool, Tomkinson, Goomadeer and Mann Rivers as well as Rolling Bay, coastal creeks and estuaries in Northern Central Arnhem Land.
These are some of the best barra fishing options in the whole of the NT. Mixed in with the barra you can also expect to tangle with threadfin and blue salmon, mangrove jack, estuary cod, juvenile Queensland groper and an array of other species.
The off-shore fishing is also fantastic with Spanish mackerel, giant trevally, cobia, queenfish and giant herring being prime pelagic targets and golden snapper, northern mulloway, coral trout and tusk fish available on the numerous offshore reefs.
The Guides
Some of the best and most experienced in the country. The knowledge of the guides is put to your advantage to make sure you have the best fishing experience possible.
The current guides have looked after the Fishabout Tours team to their best barra trip ever and deliver in both good and tough conditions.
The Boats
6 Oceanmaster sportfishing vessels with all the latest fish finding technology, electric power and safety equipment. Whilst they are licenced to take 4 anglers each, 3 is ideal.
They are incredibly stable, powered by reliable Yamaha 4-stroke engines with generous fishing platforms.
The Lodge
We’re confident in saying this multi award-winning lodge is the best accommodation offered by any barra fishing destination only rivalled by Seven Spirit Bay which is also owned and operated by Outback Spirit.
There are 12 twin safari style suites which boast superior finishes, ensuite bathrooms, air-conditioning and sizable decks.
Whilst the lodge can cater for 24 guests, we recommend pure fishing trips are kept to 18 anglers.
That’s 3 per boat and also means any VIP’s can have their own suite and management is happy to give you exclusive rights to the whole lodge.
At the centre of the lodge you’ll find the Barra Bar, dining and lodge area, which enjoys spectacular sunsets over the Liverpool and Tomkinson River flood plains.
This area operates as the main social hub with a fully licenced bar and is a great spot to enjoy a dinner of thoughtfully prepared seafood and other locally sourced fresh produce.
The Food
Nothing short of spectacular. The lodge always has an executive chef who can deliver a masterly touch on seafood.
You’re going to be providing the barramundi, coral trout and mud crabs in the freshest state for the chef to add their magic touch to.
Canapes are served each afternoon followed by a 2-course dinner. We’ve no doubt you’ll be impressed.
The Service
Very attentive. There will be staff members on hand to make sure you can grab a drink or snack when you want and there is a daily complimentary laundry service.
