Overview:
Baia Sports Fishing Lodge on the island of New Britain provides access to some of the best Black Bass and Spot Tail Bass fishing in the world, in the most comfortable lodge in PNG.
Experience untouched fishing on the clear and pristine rivers and reef systems of the northern coast of New Britain Island.
The lodge is situated in the remote province of Baia and is nestled in a pristine natural harbour, surrounded by a local fishing village, dense jungle and the shadow of a volcano.
The waters surrounding the Lodge are as untouched and wild as the land, and these uncharted Spot-tail and Black Bass hot spots have produced fish at over 40lb’s!!!
The fish targeted take a range of lures including poppers, walk the dogs, shallow divers, deep divers and a range of flies and soft plastics ensuring heart pounding action in relatively untouched waters.
The Lodge offers comfort and style with a mix of traditional Papuan food and culture.
Local owner and head guide Riccard is one of the best Fisherman in PNG and along with his experienced guides, bring essential local knowledge to help stalk the fabled Bass.
WHERE IS BAIA LODGE?
Baia Wilderness Lodge is on the largest Island off mainland Papua New Guinea. The Island is called New Britain which has two Provinces namely East and West New Britain. Kimbe is the main town and is also the capital of West New Britain.
HOW TO GET TO BAIA:
From Brisbane, flight times is approx 3hrs. A connection flight from POM is a one hour journey to Kimbe (Hoskins Airport). Upon arrival at Hoskins Airport in Kimbe, you will be met and transferred to the Liamo Reef Resort
The next morning you’ll set off early for the 4-5 hour boat ride to Baia. This is on board the luxurious Ultimate 1.
There’s every chance you’ll come across schools of yellowfin which can be a lot of fun.
After a quick lunch you’ll head to some of the nearby rivers to chase the Black and Spot Tail Bass that Baia Lodge is famous for.
You’ll be fishing pristine rivers in a jungle environment under the shadow of a volcano for the hardest fighting estuarine species on the planet for 4 full days and 2 half days.
All the rivers are within 15-60 minutes of the lodge.
There is also fantastic bluewater fishing on the doorstep of the lodge.
Giant Trevally, Sailfish, Yellowfin, Spanish Mackerel, Mahi Mahi, Red Bass, Coral Trout and a range of other species are all on the cards.

On your final day you’ll fish the rivers in the morning and head back to Liamo after an early lunch.
Overnight there and then an early morning flight back to Port Moresby with plenty of time to link up with your international flight home.
