Helifishing for barramundi is a real adrenalin experience. You’ll reach destinations that are out of reach by any other form of transport and therefore experience no fishing pressure.
You’ll have unmatched access to remote, permit only fishing locations and will witness spectacular Top End landscapes and wildlife whilst accessing these unique hotspots.
Your helicopter pilot doubles as your fishing guide (Fisheries NT accredited). There is nothing they enjoy more than putting their clients onto quality fish through their knowledge of these waterways.
They are all fishing enthusiasts who have trained as fishing guides and have an understanding of where to be and when to be there.
Trips can range from a single day to custom designed multi-day fishing adventures where you will stay in remote lodges which deliver quality accommodation, chef prepared meals and attentive service.
THE RUN-OFF
Peak time is the run off after the end of the wet season (March to May) when the flood plains are draining back into the main river systems, and barramundi congregate in big numbers to capitalise on the food sources this scenario creates.
THE BUILD-UP
The build-up (September to November) is also an excellent time. This is breeding season when big fish school up prior to the wet season starting. It is a great time of year to target trophy metre plus fish that are on the bucket list of any serious angler.
THE DRY SEASON
Because you are fishing in untouched waters the dry season can also produce excellent results and the weather conditions are ideal. You’re less likely to encounter a metre plus trophy but you can still expect to locate hungry schools of barra.
Travelling by helicopter allows you to cover large distances in a fraction of the time, accessing multiple remote locations in a single day. If they are not biting in one spot, you’re straight back in the chopper and heading to the next likely “honey hole”.
Helicopters provide fantastic manoeuvrability and are fitted with oversized viewing windows creating a premium scenic flight experience. Your pilot can easily adjust speed, altitude and direction in response to wildlife spotting or other points of interest.
All guests are supplied with quality headsets fitted with voice activated microphones so you can enjoy your pilot’s inflight commentary and you can communicate with everyone on board. Every day you’ll get extraordinary photography opportunities whilst in the air and on the ground.
All quality fishing equipment is provided but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
An average day runs for eight hours with up to two hours of flying time. The fleet of helicopters have between 3 and 5 seats each but numbers are determined by combined weights of guests and their bags. A minimum of 2 guests is required.
