“Super comfortable, great food, friendly staff and then there’s the fishing. Excellent combination.
Whilst we found Barra and Jacks nearly everywhere we went, it was the Saratoga and scenery in the upper reaches of Goose Creek which were a whole new experience for me. Pretty special place.
Heading back next year and can’t wait.”

Wombat Lodge
Melville Island Lodge is one of Australia’s premier sports-fishing lodges. It is also home to the famous Goose Creek, where legends of big Barra originate. Try your hand at landing one of Australia’s iconic fighting fish.
This remote island located at the top of the Northern Territory has an extensive and magnificent array of barely touched mangrove lined rivers and creek systems, sand flats and coastal reefs all abundant with marine life. Melville Island is an unspoilt fisherman’s paradise.
Although the lodge is remote you still have all the mod cons including hot showers, flushing toilets, phone and email access, air-conditioned rooms and a licensed bar.
Why Melville?
Some of the worlds best estuary and bluewater reef fishing right on your doorstep, with over 50 quality sports and tablefish within close proximity, many less than 10 minutes from the lodge.
In the river systems, barramundi, mangrove jack, threadfin and blue salmon, saratoga, fingermark, tarpon and estuary cod.
Off-shore there are spanish mackerel, black jewfish, golden snapper, queenfish, giant trevally, coral trout, long tail tuna and many other species.
Record size fish including fingermark (golden snapper) of 70cm plus, barra over 1m, 20kg longtail tuna, and more.
Mud crabs are frequently on the menu on top of the excellent table fish you caught that day.
Your average day on the water is 7am to 4pm dependent on the tides. You’ll be fishing during the best stages.
This is a lure anglers paradise. Fly fishing enthusiasts can target all the same species although need to provide their own equipment.
We had an absolute ball at the lodge! The best trip ever, everything worked in our favour. 4 days of perfect weather and the fish were on the bite! The Staff were incredible and Hayden our guide fit in with us perfectly. His fishing knowledge and knowledge of the area made it the perfect trip. We gave him a wish list and he nailed everything on it. It will be a hard trip to top.
