Ord River / Kununurra
The Ord River and adjacent impoundments are exceptional barramundi fisheries.
To get the best results you definitely need the guidance of a local expert.
The Ord runs for 650kms and isn’t easy to navigate. It’s extremely shallow through huge sections.
It’s the largest river in the East Kimberley that also has the reputation of producing big barramundi.
We’re confident in saying our guide on the Ord River, Lake Argyle and Lake Kununurra sets the benchmark in professionalism, fishing expertise and local knowledge that can’t be replicated.
Quality barra hold in shallow waters meaning poppers, stick baits and frogs are frequently the lures of choice.
There’s nothing better than fully visual surface strikes as your lure gets “boofed” when you’re chasing barra.
You’ll target various types of structure, drains and flats that are magnets to hungry barra.
Like all Top End destinations, the run-off is prime time but there’s quality fishing to be had through the whole season.
The build up produces excellent results for more experienced anglers and the dry season can produce numbers of smaller fish.
Trophy size metre plus barra are a real chance during the run-off and build up and you’ll be in the hands of an expert that enhances the likelihood.
We’re really excited to add the Ord River as a new destination which is ideal for small groups of 2 or 3 anglers.
Accommodation is basic but clean, functional and fully air-conditioned.
We’re confident in saying this is one of the best value options to fish an extraordinary system under the guidance of a true local professional for our most iconic sport fish, the barramundi.
