At Roko Island, you’ll discover a fisherman’s paradise. Nestled among the Torres Straight’s 274 islands, it’s only small but gives an exclusive slice of island life.
This is where the pristine wilderness of Cape York Peninsula and picturesque Torres Straight offer a blend of adventure and comfort.
Target species include the full gambit of reef and pelagic species. You’ll be:
- Casting poppers and stick baits for giant trevally, bluefin trevally and coral trout.
- Trolling for big Spanish mackerel
- Battling leaping queenfish that are everywhere
- Casting at explosive schools of longtail tuna
- Jigging plastics for fingermark and coral trout.
- Soaking a bait for large mouth nannygai and black jewfish
- Getting your arms stretched by a powerful cobia
- Flicking lures for barra in the Jardine River
The lodge has been designed to reflect island lifestyle. Accommodation is permanent tents with ceiling fans and LED lighting.
There is a licensed bar serving tap beer plus a range of spirits and wine which is adjacent to the dining area and outdoor entertaining area.
Amenities are shared.
The vessels are 7m Custom Haines Hunter and 7.5m Kelvacat and easily cater for 3-4 anglers each. The guides know these waterways extremely well and what to be targeting during the different stages of the tide.
The nearest airport to Roko Island is at Bamaga. There are several flights a week to and from Cairns. The Roko crew will meet you at the airport then you’ll do the short drive to Seisia. From there it’s a 20 minute boat ride to Roko Island.
