Big Barra and the Run Off

The Northern Territory comes alive between March and June as the vast floodplains awaken with the last of the wet season’s nourishing rains.

During this time, the creeks and rivers become a bustling hub of activity as fish of all sizes, from juveniles to magnificent females weighing over 40 pounds which congregate to feast on the exodus of smaller fish leaving the wetlands.

Whether you choose to fish the channels, mangroves, rock bars or drains of the South and East Alligator Rivers in Kakadu National Park, explore the flood plains of the Mary River and Shady Camp or navigate the legendary and beautiful Daly River, we’ve got you covered.

But it’s not just the fish that gather in these aquatic hotspots; the wetlands become a bustling ecosystem teeming with life. Estuarine crocodiles, majestic Jabiru, sea eagles, egrets, magpie geese, and graceful kites all congregate in the wetlands, creating a dramatic backdrop as you pursue barramundi.

As you embark on this adventure, you’ll be at the heart of nature’s grand performance. The wild north shifts into high gear for the annual feeding frenzy that heralds the arrival of the long dry season.

Our journey with you begins right from the airport or your accommodation in Darwin. We ensure your comfort with air-conditioned 4WD vehicles that deliver you to your destination. The anticipation builds as you make your way to the fishing grounds.
