Yamba is one of the jewels of the NSW North Coast.
On top of excellent fishing both offshore and on the mighty Clarence River, there are spectacular beaches, beautiful coastal walks and a challenging 18 hole golf course.
We’ve been visiting Yamba and it’s coastal neighbour Angourie for more than 40 years and keep heading back.
Angourie is one of only two World Heritage Surfing Reserves in the country.
Things can get busy during school holiday periods but outside of these times, it’s a relaxed pace that offers a really good mix of accommodation, cafes and restaurants.
There’s also the Pacific Hotel which overlooks Main Beach and every year gets voted one of Australia’s best coastal pubs.
We are confident in saying the charter operator we use is one of the absolute best on the NSW East Coast. The area they target is from Evans Head to Sandon River and east to the continental shelf.
Your hosts are born and bred Yamba locals who have a wealth of experience and knowledge that gives you the best chance at some fantastic fishing for a range of species.
They know pretty much every fish producing lump and bump on the ocean floor and when to be there.
During the warmer months there is excellent fishing for pelagic species like mahi mahi and mackerel and if you’re out near the shelf maybe even a wahoo or billfish.
Year round there is excellent bottom fishing for snapper, mulloway, teraglin, pearl perch and tuskfish. There’s also frequent appearances of kingfish, cobia and amberjack.
You’re able to keep what you catch within the bag and size limits set by NSW Fisheries but please release what you don’t need.
The boat is the largest charter vessel operating in Northern NSW and extremely spacious whilst delivering a swift smooth ride.
She caters for up to 12 anglers at a time but most of our bookings are for groups of 4 to 8. This provides a heap of room for a better overall experience.
Quality tackle and bait are provided but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
A week stay with 3 or 4 days fishing is also well worth considering. That way you can soak up everything else Yamba and Angourie are renowned for.
Yamba is about a 7 hour drive north of Sydney and about 3.5 hours south of Brisbane. If you’d prefer to fly and hire a car, you can fly to Ballina, Coffs Harbour or Grafton.
We can package your fishing and accommodation needs to make the trip as seamless as possible.
This is a self-catered trip but we can provide recommendations on the best restaurants and cafes if you’d prefer to eat out.
Yamba represents really good value for a fishing expedition at one of the prettiest towns on the East Coast.
If you are keen to consider a trip here, please contact us to advise of your preferred style of accommodation, likely length of stay, how many in the group and number of days fishing, so we can package it up and let you know the overall cost.
