About us

Over the past 30 years the Fishabout team has been put together with like minded individuals and businesses, choosing to remain a specialised, well managed operation ensuring ongoing personal and professional service.

We are all focused on delivering the most magnificent locations and lasting memories to all our clients.

We are a dedicated Fisherman’s travel agent with a simple philosophy; “Best Guides, Best Locations, Best Seasons”. This philosophy ensures our customers have the greatest chance of landing the fish of a life-time.

We also run operations in Sydney, with daily charters or private extended trips.

On top of that we also package fishing trips to over 20 domestic and international locations. We target the planets top Sports fish and select destinations based on these target species, guiding expertise, food, accommodation and the natural environment.

Fishabout is an eco-fishing company, adhering to strict sustainable fishing practices, with “table” catch only. We also believe that fishing is one of the simple pleasures in life, where the reconnection with nature, family and friends is as important as hauling in the big one.

Please enjoy our site and we look forward to sharing the world of fishing with you!
Ecofishing policy
Fishabout has been promoting and supporting sustainable fishing practices throughout Australia for more than 20 years. This ethos has formed the cornerstone of our company as we strive to promote fishery management for the future enjoyment of generations to come.

Our Team

CEO - Graeme Russell

Russ has been a fishing enthusiast since he was a kid. Over the last 30+ years he’s been lucky enough to visit all of the current lodges and camps in the NT, various motherships that cover the Kimberley Coast, Top End, Cape York and Great Barrier Reef. Internationally he’s targeted black and spot tail bass in PNG, chinook salmon in British Columbia, tigerfish on the lower Zambezi and an array of reef and pelagic species across the South Pacific. Russ took a majority share holding in Fishabout Tours in 2011 and is now fully focussed on delivering the results our clients expect after a 40+ year career in the world of commercial property. His vision is to ensure Fishabout is the pre-eminent fishing tour company in Australia that delivers the best there is to offer domestically and globally.

“I’m really excited about the next chapter for Fishabout and believe the destinations we offer are all outstanding. We’ll continue to grow these selectively as we explore new options that deliver benchmarks in accommodation and service that we’re proud to be associated with. Excellent fishing is still what drives most of our destinations. We’ll also be expanding the eco-tourism choices in our portfolio of destinations to cater to a broader audience that suits partners and families as well as our core client base”

Managing Director - Stefan Hansson

Stefan was fishing pretty much as soon as he could walk. His first fish was a whiting taken off Sydneys Balmoral beach in the late seventies, and he has been immersed in the fishing industry for over 25 years. He has written articles for various fishing publications (online and off), spent 8 years writing the daily fishing reports for the SMH, 10 years working in tackle stores, conceptualised built and ran the website “Sydneyfishfinder”, and occasionally acts as a fishing guide and instructor. Stefan has fished across Australia and the world, from the wild rivers of PNG to the untouched waters of Kiribati, and rates Great Barrier Reef with its amazing diversity of fish and fishing options amid the laid back atmosphere of FNQ as his favourite fishing destination. His piscatorial loves are both casting stickbaits to big Kings and cubing for fat Yellowfin Tuna off his home port of Sydney.

Guide - Stuart Reid

After 20 years of Foreign Exchange broking in London and Sydney, Stuart - who had been fishing Sydneys waterways for years, quit his job, did his Coxswains ticket and joined Fishabout in 2000. Over the past 20 years Stuart has enjoyed being the inshore and offshore member of the Fishabout team, fishing everywhere from the harbour bridge to Long Reef and out to the offshore FADs in his 8m fibreglass 'Hooker'. His favourite fishing would be with his two sons targeting anything from Barra in the N.T. to blackfish in North Harbour. He lives by the credo " He who dies with the most fishing gear wins!"
