This has to be the best value option anywhere which gives you the chance to tangle with some of the most sort after sportfish that swim our oceans.

Vanuatu is synonymous with big angry dogtooth tuna and oversized giant trevally. A live aboard option substantially enhances the chances of experiencing both.

If jigging and casting poppers are some of your favourite forms of fishing, this trip is for you.

Then there is the pelagic speedsters and billfish. The area is renowned for blue marlin and sailfish with black and striped marlin showing up at certain times of the year.

Big schools of yellowfin tuna are standard, wahoo are present in excellent numbers and sizeable proportions and mahi mahi are normally around any flotsam and jetsam you may come across. You can also jig up some excellent table fish including coral trout (grouper) and flame snapper.

The area you will fish is the Shepherd Group of Islands which are about 80kms north of Port Vila (as the crow flies). This is a group of volcanic islands and pinnacles that provide the best sportfishing in Vanuatu.

The region experiences little fishing pressure and has dozens of marks that are proven fish producers. It’s only live aboard options that target the Shepherd Group of Islands. Those who are using Port Vila as their daily launching pad are much more restricted in the areas they can access.

This trip is ideal for small groups of 2 or 3 anglers making it easy to organise. The sleeping areas are comfortable and work well on the basis you are only living aboard for 2 nights at a time. The cabin area is fully air-conditioned..

Trips can be extended out to 6 days but if you wish to do that a night back at Port Vila in the middle of the trip is required to re-stock supplies and refuel.

There are daily flights to and from Port Vila which are very affordable. Flight time is circa 3hrs 30mins.

If you intend to spend extra time in Vanuatu there are several excellent resorts to choose from.
